I feel like it’s been ages upon ages upon FOREVER that I did a Stacking the Shelves post last.

LEGASP!  OH WAIT, that’s because it HAS been ages upon ages upon forever!  How silly of me.  What, did I think I suddenly inherited pocketfuls of free time?!  Who am I even kidding with that nonsense?!?!?!

So.  Life lately.  Uhm.  The man and I are doing okay.  We’re sort of on this “save bunch of money!” kick because we’re taking a week off in August to go on vacation (oh my penguins, what even IS that word anymore?!?!?!) and, yah know…bills don’t go on vacation with us.  So we’re not really buying a whole lot, and I sit around after work still AT WORK for like 2.5 hours waiting for him to pick me up, annnnnd… I basically have even less life now than I did before!?

One of my employees is currently missing.  She told her aunt she was headed to work Thursday evening (she was supposed to work that night) annnnd…she never showed up at work.  And she never went home.  The aunt has filed a missing persons report; we’re all hoping that the girl is found safe and sound.  This is so very stressful and scary–she’s a minor still, and it’s not like her to just up and disappear.

Apparently a water main broke in our apartment complex, so our water pressure has been going in and out since last night (Thursday–because, you know, I’m writing this a day ahead of posting)

I put up a discussion post asking for tips and tricks on how to DO ALL TEH THINGS for the Book Block world without, you know, losing my beak.  You can find that post right HERE, if you’re interested.  I’d also LOVE it if you Penguins could, once again, link me to stuff and things you think I should check out that I’ve probably missed in recent weeks past–I really AM trying to do better at this blog hopping thing, I promise!  I just…I think I need to get a set schedule, or something.  Like, such and such days I spend working on blog posts, such and such on reading, such and such on blog hopping.  A set schedule might help me get better organized at this point.

And now, FOR THE BOOKS!  because I know you all didn’t come here just to hear me yak.

Hellooooooooooo, penguins!

How are all your feathers treating you!?  Snack on any awesome tuna fish in the few weeks I’ve been MIA from this post?!  Had your beaks tucked, your talons painted, your pebbles shined?!  Let me know what’s up in your penguin worlds, if anything!

As for me…

Nothing much new around here.  I am workaworkaworking, just waiting for August to come around–the man and I will be flying back to Colorado to visit his family and spend some time for his grandma’s (93?rd) birthday.  Mostly I’m excited to get out of town and GET AWAY FROM WORK for a while.  I swear, working 6 days a week is haaaaaaaaard.  Because exhausting.  I feel like I never have time to just relax, I always gotta have my phone on and my brain working.

I got an email the other day from HarperCollins Publishers that took me completely by surprise.  It read:

“Happy Monday…and congratulations!

You have been chosen as one of our Harper Voyager Super Readers! We’re so excited to have you and welcome you to our tribe of nerdy booklovers!

We’ll be sending you a “welcome package” soon…once we manage to dig ourselves out from beneath the email deluge that is conference season.  In the meantime, rest assured that we’ll be sending you e-galleys for our upcoming titles via edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com.”

I cannot EXPLAIN to you guys how excited I was about this–and how excited I still am!  I don’t know what I did to catch their attention, but I am SO beyond honored to have been considered and chosen–THANK YOU SO MUCH, HarperCollins!

So between the chaos of work and the excitement that is my book world…the last few weeks have been pretty nonstop, and I’m happy with that!  (I still can’t wait for August, though–I need a serious vacation.)

So this week was “get emails from ALL TEH AUTHORS/PUBLISHERS” week in my world.  And by that, I mean all those I’ve worked with in the past.  And by that I mean…okay, not ALL of them, but a good amount that added up to a decent number of new books on my shelves to read YAY!

Because…books.  Books are what excite me.

I don’t really have a whole lot to talk about today.  I am in desperate need of a friend or two or several, but I’m not sure where to even begin with THAT venture.  I mean, PandaPants is one of the bestestest book buddies around, but I’m a little lacking in the friends department in general, and I have basically zero amount of time on my hands lately to go out there and make some, sooooo… any suggestions?  Anyone?  HOW DOES A PENGUIN MAKE FRIENDS?!

HELLOOOOOOO, penguins!  It is I, your royal beakness!

I’m not sure how much I’ll be updating your fins today–since my last Stacking the Shelves, not a whoooole lot has changed really.  Let’s see…. people continue quitting at work (they’re dropping like flies, penguins.  LIKE FLIIIIIES!)  I’m going to be officially starting my OFFICIAL schedule in the near soonish future…meaning 9am-5pm…six days a week.  On the plus side, YAY OVERTIME!  On the negative side….there really isn’t one actually, so YAY that too!  Seriously, I’m really enjoying this job.  My bosses are fantastic, I’ve been offered a SUPER awesome promotion packet for when I take on the GM position, and I’m super enthusiastic about this opportunity–seriously, the timing could not have been better with all of these life changes.  Obviously something wanted me to be in THIS place, doing THIS work, at this exact time.

Keith apparently ordered the DVD shelves earlier today, so we’ll be receiving that around Valentines Day, which means YAY I can actually unpack some of my boxes finally (seriously, all my stuff is still pretty much in boxes.  Or hampers.  Or bags.  We really need to start working on sprucing up the apartment.)  He also informed me the other night that we will be celebrating Valentines Day with dinner out and a movie.  Having come out of a series of relationships where Valentines Day wasn’t really a big deal….this is interesting for me.  Because honestly, until he said something, while I KNEW subconsciously that VDay is a thing…I had forgotten?  the VDay is a thing couples actually DO?!  I’m so terrible at this game, I can’t even.

Wyoming is getting DUMPED on by mountains of snow and all I can do is sit here and laugh because I SO TOTALLY don’t miss that frickfrack right now.  I mean, we’ve had some cold days here…but…I’ll take this cold over the snow and the below zeroes and the ICK that’s happening back home.

I actually have tomorrow (Saturday!) off, so Keith and I are gonna do….I dunno what but hopefully something fun because I sort of need to get out of the apartment for a bit.  Maybe I’ll talk him into going to a movie, or something… SOOOOOMETHING DIFFERENT, at the very least!

Other than that, I’ve just been doing the usual–going to work (I went in like two hours earlier today than usual because YAY catering orders! boooo I’m exhausted.  YAY tomorrow off!), coming home, eating dinner and sleeping….rinse and repeat.  Oh, and also squashing ants, because apparently the last tenants weren’t clean at all and so we have those.  Little tiny ones.  EWWWW.  (side note…why is it I can’t get away from the pests, no matter where I go?!)

What’s been happening in your worlds, penguins?!

I am so freaking tiiiiiired, penguins.  Because I’m training to be manager, I’m working 6 days a week.  Now, some of those days are MUCH shorter than others…but that doesn’t mean I’m not exhausted.  I mean, I know I’m going to have to get used to it, and quickly–it sounds like I’m going to be working 6 days a week for the rest of ALL TIME (or at least, the rest of my days with this company, which could be a while)…and it’ll be more consistent hours, proooooobably something like 9am-5pm… so… I need to suck it up, right?

But right now, I’m tired.  And that’s okay.

I honestly don’t have all that much to talk about right now.  Like I said, I’ve been working like a maniac since… a week after I got here to Indy.  Keith and I currently don’t have days off together (often, at least) so we haven’t even really had time to do much aside from go to work and come home.  We spend the evenings together, at least–obviously on our computers, but we generally watch a movie or tv show or something as well.

We haven’t even gotten the apartment all sorted out yet!  We’re working, right now, on finding a shelf (or shelves?) for our DVDs.  We have one we want to get picked out–we just need to save up money and order it from amazon.  Then we need to find some more bookshelves–I think we’ll probably just go to Walmart and get more from them, as we already have two of the cheap ones and that way they’ll all match.  So, yeah, this means a lot of our apartment is currently still in boxes.  Which is fine, it’s not a BIG deal…but it doesn’t necessarily feel like “home” quite yet either.  Hopefully soonish we’ll be able to fix that.

And….yeah, I think that’s about it on the updates front.  Basically, I am a very tired penguin–and that’s going to probably be my life for a while to come.  YAY me!  At least I’m still managing to fit in reading, and blogging–though honestly, I haven’t blog-hopped in aaaaages and I miss it so much.  I really ought to carve out some time in my evenings to do that again…

For now, let’s talk about the BOOKS, shall we?!

HELLO FROM THE OOOOOOUTSIIIIIIIIIDE!  I must have called a thousand tiiiiiiiimes!

No, seriously guys–I have something akin to life whiplash right now.  So–I MOVED!  Which I know I mentioned in my last Stacking the Shelves post but that was SO LONG AGO I felt the need to remind everybody.  I moved, and I started putting in job applications pretty much right away, and…

A WHOLE WEEK!  went by, and I hadn’t heard anything.  So I logged into my email and was getting ready to go back to perusing snagajob.com… and said job site emailed me.  I opened it up.  It’s from an employer, seeking help–they found my resume on the site and thought they’d reach out to me to see if I’d be interested in a job.

WELL HECKLES YES!  I thought.  So I filled out the application on the website.  And then I got another email–could you fill out the application for the company’s website?  Please and thank you?

Okay, sure, I can TOTALLY do that.  Filled it out.  Awesome, that’s cool, let me just go back to perusing snagajob.com now and………

and my phone rings.  It’s the employer; can we set up an interview?  For, say, tomorrow?

WELL OKAY, I have nothing else to do with my time and I haven’t heard back from anyone else yet.  So… I go to the interview, massive butterflies and the whole nervous shebang.  And it turns out to not be an ACTUAL interview, but a more “meet and greet.”  Within half an hour, I had a job.

And I don’t mean like, your normal job, okay?  I mean, they brought me on as assistant manager…with the hopes that by March, I’ll be managing one of their two locations.

WHAT EVEN!?!?!?!

So I’ve been there two weeks, TODAY…and was told yesterday? or Wednesday? within the last few days at least, that because I’ve learned so quickly and moved through the training at such a rapid pace, I am FOR SURE going to be offered general manager position.  They’re working on drawing up all the paperwork.

I’ve been in Indy, what… three weeks?  Four maybe?  HOW DID THIS EVEN HAPPEN I DON’T UNDERSTAND?!?!?!?!  I feel like…somewhere in the last few months of my life, something massive happened.  Something massive changed, and suddenly I have all this opportunity and the chance to actually TAKE THE CHANCE and I just…

Yeah, life whiplash.  Definitely.

So aside from working like a maniac and trying to shove a WHOLE BUNCH of information into my brain all at once, I haven’t really done a whole lot?  Keith’s parents were in town this last weekend, and we moved into a bigger apartment (two floors!  two bedrooms! THERE’S SO MUCH ROOM I CAN’T EVEN!) [I feel like I’ve spent a lot of this post shouting at all of you…. #sorrynotsorry #Imsuperexcitedaboutstuffandthings ]  Keith bought me a Fire tablet!!! which I received in the mail yesterday, and oh my it’s SO pretty!  YAY for being able to read graphic novels on my tablet now because I couldn’t before!?!?!  Also, we’re going to be purchasing a humongaloid DVD shelf thingy for our living room.  It holds some crazy amount like 800 DVDs?!  and we both sort of fell in love with it.  So, it’ll be only about halfway filled…which means YAY room to add more if we ever actually buy any more physical copies (because netflix.  and vudu.  and youtube.  seriously, who even needs cable tv?!?!?! Not us!)

And… that’s about it really!  How are you all doing?!

HELLOOOOOOOO, from your favorite penguin!  I am OFFICIALLY in Indianapolis, Indiana–and I am SO super stoked about it!  I’ve been working on getting job applications sent around, and acclimating to the new place (although this is silly really, as we’ll be moving into a bigger place in mid-January).

My blood sugars have been a bit rocky the last few days; I’m hoping it’s just left-over stress from the move and all the traveling.  I might also be trying to catch a cold, so there’s that as well–that NEVER helps with blood sugars, and I don’t catch colds often, so… eh!

Keith bought me a HUGE stuffed penguin for Christmas.  Seriously, it comes up to my hip.  I had TWO huge boxes from him “under” the tree Christmas morning, actually, and was so super confused about what they were.  So, one was Bonekah–aptly named by Keith’s adorable son, whom I spent most of Christmas Eve and Christmas morning hanging out with.  The other was a gorgeous photograph of a sunset over some of the Colorado mountains, which he purchased at the art gallery in his home town.  Of course, I got other things as well–Santa came to visit for the kids, and left us all stuffed stockings.  Overall, it was a ton of fun, and I was sort of sad to see it end–though only a little, as I was ready for the next half of my adventure to begin.

One of my half-sisters, who I haven’t seen in something like ten or eleven years, has begun planning a trip out this way to meet up with me.  She lives something like four hours from here, and is wanting to get this way before she goes back to school.  I’m pretty excited about that–the last time I saw her, I was still in high school!  Hopefully it’ll be fun.

I’m trying to get back into a reading routine, as I sort of lost my old one when the traveling and family-time ensued.  Hopefully I’ll find a job fairly quickly and can incorporate my entire new routine together at once.  Hopefully.  But we’ll see what happens.

Other than that, it’s life as usual at the igloo!  How have you guys been?!  Have you missed me?!?!?!

I got the rest of my fragiles/breakables packed up, along with most of my odds ‘n’ ends AND board games AND dishes, this last week (mostly this morning.  I was a busy bee this morning!)  I also cleaned the stove before calling quits for the day–chemical headaches due to too much scrub-a-dub and not enough air filtration left me a bit out of sorts this afternoon, but I took a very hot shower and shaved and I felt MUCH better.

We got hit HARDCORE by a winter storm last night/this morning.  Last I checked, the snow was above my ankles already–it’s a winter wonderland, and it’s FREEEEEEZING.  It’s supposed to hit -42 F with windchill tonight.  BRRRRRRR!  I get that I’m a penguin, but I’m not equipped for this sort of weather guys.  I’ve been hiding indoors instead.

I FINALLY!  started on The Neverland WarsAnnelise the PandaPants should be SOOPAH pleased and proud to hear this!  I know, I know, I’ve been slacking…I’m soooooo terrible!  I’m trying, though–hopefully you’ll get some more reviews before I move, guys!  I’m hoping to settle in for some LONG TIME reading tomorrow, so fingers crossed I get at least one book fully knocked out!

Thursday was my last day of work, but…I don’t think it’s fully sunk in yet?  Actually, I don’t think the fact I’m moving next week has fully sunk in yet either.  That probably won’t happen until Keith gets here and we start loading up the truck.  Maybe not even then.  It might not hit me until we’re out of town, on our way down the road–that’s what happened when I went off to college.  Things just don’t really sink in with me until I’m actively in the middle of doing it, I guess.

Bau and I watched half of Scream (Season 2) when he was here last weekend.  I FINISHED the other half after he left, and lemme just say….OH MY GOODNESS?!?!?!?!  I mean, okay, the last two episodes were weird and didn’t really have much baring on the actual story line–they sort of went off on their own little mini tangent–but I.  LOVE.  This show so hard?!  Anyone else watch it and want to scream with me?!?!?!

I’m also currently watching Fuller House (Season 2).  It’s soopah adorable so far, though I’m only like 3 episodes in.  LOOOOOVE that so many of the shows I grew up watching, are being brought back or given continuations.  SUCH an awesome trend!  I just saw today on facebook, for instance, that Duck Tales will be returning in 2017…..with DAVID TENNANT playing Scrooge McDuck!!!! I mean… I’m SO excited, I can’t even handle this.

So…I went off on a little bit of a tangent myself there–sorry, penguins!  Let’s jump into the books now, yes?!

Bau is coming to town today to get the rest of his stuff (all…two? boxes worth)  I guess we’ll be hanging out or something, I’m not going to make him drive the 6 hours here just to turn around and kick him out for a 6 hour trip back.  We’ve already agreed to be nice to each other while he’s here (there’s been some…moments, lately, of not-so-nice) so I guess if he reneges on his agreement I can kick him out.  😉  But I’m hoping he sticks to the plan lol.

I HAVE FIVE!!!! days of work left and then like three days to clean a bit and then….AND THEN!  Keith will be here.  It just… I don’t even… I’m trying not to think about it too hard, because the closer we get, the more terrified I feel.  Not for any specific reason–I’m not scared about living with him, or anything like that.  But… I’m about to up-heave my entire life?  And that’s terrifying to me, as I’m so used to staying in the safe zone.  This is a GOOD move for me, I know it is–and once we’re on the road, I’ll be fine.  It’s just getting over this little “before” hurdle I’m having trouble with.

My mom had her surgery on Monday.  She had a second carpal tunnel done on her right hand, and an ulnar nerve impingement done on her right elbow.  She’s in this HUGE…er…cast-like thing?  but so far she seems to be doing fine.  She goes back to work today (Saturday).

We had to go in to learn the new safes at work yesterday.  They’re suuuuuuper easy and I probably could have figured out how to do it on my own, buuut it’s probably good we did a bit of training.  Though honestly… I only have five days left?  So it doesn’t really matter one way or another.

And…I think that’s about it!  I have a TON of cover reveals, blitz posts, and other fun stuff scheduled to come in the next few weeks (YAY!)  Also, been working on my reviews–slowly but steadily getting through those ARC backlogs, though… I keep adding more on.  OH WELL, this is my life now!  I’m totally cool with that!

How are you guys?!

Sooooo…

I changed up my blog a little bit.  Not much.  I mean, I’m not even sure you’ll  have NOTICED, it’s such a small change.

But if you HAVE been paying attention and you DID notice…let me know what you think?!  I sort of decided very very late Thursday night that I wanted–nay, NEEDED–to do this.  I guess it was time?  My blog wasn’t feeling very seamless and cohesive to me anymore, and I wanted to change that, so…

how did I do?  Is it more cohesive now?  A little?  Please tell me it is?!

How are YOU all?!  What did you do this last week?!  What blog posts did you put up that you think I should check out?! TELL ME ALL THE THINGS!
