So… I didn’t say anything the other day because I was SUPER tired, but I was working the night shift the last few nights annnnnd the first night there, who should walk in but on of my FAVORITE booktubers.

Now….if you know me, you know I sometimes don’t say things when I should because I get all awkward and nervous, but this day I just couldn’t help myself. I mentioned that I followed him on youtube and we had a great chat about books while my coworker and I made his sandwich.

And then he turned around and talked about it. On his vlog. On youtube. So…yeah… GO WATCH IT! Mostly because he’s such a great person to watch.

( If you’re wondering/only want to see what he says about our interaction, skip ahead to like the eight or nine minute mark.  SERIOUSLY, though, guys–you should TOTES go follow Peter for his booktube if you’re not already following him, because he’s awesome sauce and I adore him so hard.  His booktube channel can be found RIGHT HERE MAH DEARS! )

HELLOOOOOOO, penguins!  It is I, your royal beakness!

I’m not sure how much I’ll be updating your fins today–since my last Stacking the Shelves, not a whoooole lot has changed really.  Let’s see…. people continue quitting at work (they’re dropping like flies, penguins.  LIKE FLIIIIIES!)  I’m going to be officially starting my OFFICIAL schedule in the near soonish future…meaning 9am-5pm…six days a week.  On the plus side, YAY OVERTIME!  On the negative side….there really isn’t one actually, so YAY that too!  Seriously, I’m really enjoying this job.  My bosses are fantastic, I’ve been offered a SUPER awesome promotion packet for when I take on the GM position, and I’m super enthusiastic about this opportunity–seriously, the timing could not have been better with all of these life changes.  Obviously something wanted me to be in THIS place, doing THIS work, at this exact time.

Keith apparently ordered the DVD shelves earlier today, so we’ll be receiving that around Valentines Day, which means YAY I can actually unpack some of my boxes finally (seriously, all my stuff is still pretty much in boxes.  Or hampers.  Or bags.  We really need to start working on sprucing up the apartment.)  He also informed me the other night that we will be celebrating Valentines Day with dinner out and a movie.  Having come out of a series of relationships where Valentines Day wasn’t really a big deal….this is interesting for me.  Because honestly, until he said something, while I KNEW subconsciously that VDay is a thing…I had forgotten?  the VDay is a thing couples actually DO?!  I’m so terrible at this game, I can’t even.

Wyoming is getting DUMPED on by mountains of snow and all I can do is sit here and laugh because I SO TOTALLY don’t miss that frickfrack right now.  I mean, we’ve had some cold days here…but…I’ll take this cold over the snow and the below zeroes and the ICK that’s happening back home.

I actually have tomorrow (Saturday!) off, so Keith and I are gonna do….I dunno what but hopefully something fun because I sort of need to get out of the apartment for a bit.  Maybe I’ll talk him into going to a movie, or something… SOOOOOMETHING DIFFERENT, at the very least!

Other than that, I’ve just been doing the usual–going to work (I went in like two hours earlier today than usual because YAY catering orders! boooo I’m exhausted.  YAY tomorrow off!), coming home, eating dinner and sleeping….rinse and repeat.  Oh, and also squashing ants, because apparently the last tenants weren’t clean at all and so we have those.  Little tiny ones.  EWWWW.  (side note…why is it I can’t get away from the pests, no matter where I go?!)

What’s been happening in your worlds, penguins?!

HELLOOOOOOOO, from your favorite penguin!  I am OFFICIALLY in Indianapolis, Indiana–and I am SO super stoked about it!  I’ve been working on getting job applications sent around, and acclimating to the new place (although this is silly really, as we’ll be moving into a bigger place in mid-January).

My blood sugars have been a bit rocky the last few days; I’m hoping it’s just left-over stress from the move and all the traveling.  I might also be trying to catch a cold, so there’s that as well–that NEVER helps with blood sugars, and I don’t catch colds often, so… eh!

Keith bought me a HUGE stuffed penguin for Christmas.  Seriously, it comes up to my hip.  I had TWO huge boxes from him “under” the tree Christmas morning, actually, and was so super confused about what they were.  So, one was Bonekah–aptly named by Keith’s adorable son, whom I spent most of Christmas Eve and Christmas morning hanging out with.  The other was a gorgeous photograph of a sunset over some of the Colorado mountains, which he purchased at the art gallery in his home town.  Of course, I got other things as well–Santa came to visit for the kids, and left us all stuffed stockings.  Overall, it was a ton of fun, and I was sort of sad to see it end–though only a little, as I was ready for the next half of my adventure to begin.

One of my half-sisters, who I haven’t seen in something like ten or eleven years, has begun planning a trip out this way to meet up with me.  She lives something like four hours from here, and is wanting to get this way before she goes back to school.  I’m pretty excited about that–the last time I saw her, I was still in high school!  Hopefully it’ll be fun.

I’m trying to get back into a reading routine, as I sort of lost my old one when the traveling and family-time ensued.  Hopefully I’ll find a job fairly quickly and can incorporate my entire new routine together at once.  Hopefully.  But we’ll see what happens.

Other than that, it’s life as usual at the igloo!  How have you guys been?!  Have you missed me?!?!?!

Hey, guys!

I hope all your Sundays started off better than mine.  I spent the morning, once again, fighting with some very stubborn and ugly blood sugars.  I mean, you’d think I’d know better by now?…stress is NOT a diabetic’s friend.  I proved that today.  On the plus side, given how much water I’ve guzzled today, I should be SOOPAH well-hydrated.

There’s really nothing new to report in my world this week.  I started Bleach last night on Netflix, so I guess there’s that?  I got to episode 8 before shutting it off for the night.  It’s pretty good so far, I think–the snark is on point, and you all know I LOVE my snark!

Annnd…that’s preeeeetty much it, I think!  So let’s recap the last week, yes?

I feel super icky today, penguins.  All the stress of late has manifested itself into nausea and high blood sugars and pure emotional exhaustion, which means all I REALLY want to do it burrow beneath a bunch of soft, warm blankets and hide from the world.  Unfortunately, life goes on, and so must I.

Due to this, I’m going to keep this post soopah short.  Besides, there’s nothing new to report about my life–I did that in yesterday’s post.  SO!

Stacking the Shelves AND Sunday Post

I went to start writing this post out…and got pen ink all over my fingers.  Yes, I still physically plan out most of my posts–it helps me think better, I guess?  I’m a huge freak, okay?!  I admit it!  But seriously, there’s just something calming about putting pen tip to paper for me.

Wednesday morning, I was in the middle of making coffee at work when one of the weirdest customer interactions I’ve ever had happened.  Weekday mornings are, generally, pretty busy…but we were in a sort of lull moment, and I was trying to get coffee brewing before the next rush.  This guy, whom I’ve never seen before, comes in and pulls out a pocket full of change.

“Can I get a small cup of coffee for… 85 cents?”  he asked.

Well, no…our smalls are $1.15 I thought, but said aloud, “Sure, I’ll cover what’s left.”  I guess I was feeling generous, or something?

“Okay, great!  I’ll get a small cup…and a phone number.”

Now, don’t get me wrong here–I get hit on by my regulars on a daily basis.  They’re all harmless, though, and I know they mean nothing by it.  This guy?  My alarms were going full-throttle almost instantly.  Hoping he’d forget about it, I went up to ring him out, which is when…

“Where’s the rest of it?”  He asked, spreading his hands out in a what the hell kind of gesture.  Internally, I grimaced.  Externally, I forced a smile and met his eye.

“The rest of what?”

“Well, your phone number.”

“I’m sorry, I don’t give out my phone number.”  Which is true.  I’ve had problems with stalkers and psycho exes in the past; I NEVER give my number out to people.  Ever.

“OH, COME ON!”  Which is exactly as far as I allowed it to get.  I dropped my smile.  I took a breath.  I caught his eye.

“I don’t think my husband would like me giving my number out.”

And he immediately backpedaled, tossing a “didn’t know you were married” over his shoulder as he ran out the door.  Now, I get it.  I don’t wear a wedding band because I don’t have one I’m not allergic to.  But…if someone tells you no?  The answer is, and should be no matter what, NO.  Yeesh.

My little brother has OFFICIALLY kicked off his snake breeding business–his eggs began hatching the other day.  My mom’s been sending me pictures of the little ones, and I have to admit, while I’m not the biggest fan of snakes…they’re pretty stinking cute.  Out of 8 eggs, they’re all different; he got 2 “normal” breeds, and 6 that he’s not quite sure what they are.  He’s pretty excited.

Otherwise, things have been rolling along like normal.  We’re pretty strapped for cash right now, so I didn’t buy ANYTHING this week in terms of books!  Are you proud of me for not one-clicking like a maniac?!  It took seeeeeerious self-control, let me tell you!  But this why I decided to mix these posts this week, which means…

I planned to start this post a different way, but… my heart hurts, guys.  My heart hurts for this world, for the people who are experiencing these tragedies first hand…. My heart hurts, for pretty much everyone.  Just last week, IN MY TOWN! we had a guy–who has since admitted to being off his medications–who stood outside the local police station and threatened officers with violence, with a bomb.  This was close to me.  This is everywhere.  I have a friend in Turkey right now, who–hopefully–will be finally catching a flight out this evening after several terrifying days.  My heart HURTS.  I planned to start this post a different way, but when I sat down to write, this happened instead.  Stay safe, penguins.  Stay safe.

Now then…

For the last few weeks, I’ve been participating in a weekly Saturday evening twitter chat through #BBTC (hosted by @brittanysbookrambles).  They are, honestly, one of the highlights of my week.  They’re a TON of fun, and totally spoiler-free, so you don’t have to have already read the book to join in and participate.  Mostly it’s just a bunch of reviewers/readers getting together with the author and sitting down for a friendly chat (usually, a group of us starts on food, or on Furbies and how much we hate them….)  Obviously, the author present shares teasers from their upcoming book, and the questions asked of participants revolve around big themes from the read .  I always have SUCH a blast talking to everyone and freaking out about our mutual love for all things books.  There’s also always a giveaway–usually an ARC/copy of the book being discussed, and swag as the author sees fit.

Last night’s chat was ALL ABOUT

Stealing Snow (Stealing Snow, #1)

and guys… I WON!  I don’t even know right now, I think I’m still in a bit of shock, but keep your eyes peeled–I’ll be posting up pics when I receive it!  SO.  MUCH.  EXCITE!

I managed to sit down and READ! (I know, shocking right?!) last week, though the one I read yesterday has absolutely broken me.  It took me well over two hours to write my review, and I’m pretty sure half of it is a garbled, incoherent mess.  Oops?!  Have you ever had a book break you into teensy pieces?  If so, what was the book?  I’d love to know, I’m just nosy this way I guess!

What’s new with all of you guys?  Having any luck catching Pokemon, if you play?  The hubs tries, but between server issues and it freezing, I doooon’t think he’s had much luck.  And speaking of, if you play: BE CAREFUL!  Sheesh, penguins, it’s like this game took over and everybody forgot how to use their heads or something.  If you’re driving, you shouldn’t be catching Pokemon at the same time.  You should ALSO probably not go into abandoned mine shafts, or the tops of cliffs, or… COMMON SENSE!  Seriously.  Don’t be stupid, it’s just a game–I promise it’s not THAT important.  Unless it’s run by demons, and they need human sacrifices.  In which case, I’m glad I don’t play.

With THAT being said…

Happy “technically it’s Sunday, but it’s the start of yet another work week for me” day, everyone!  I know, it’s a mouthful, but I’m making it work.  So, how’s the weekend treating you all?  Read anything spectaculous?  Done anything exciting?

The local high school held reunions this weekend.  I totally spaced it out–until one of my classmates messaged me on facebook.  So Friday evening, the hubby and I rushed to throw ourselves together and went out to the golf course to meet everybody.  Except when we got there, “everybody” was…six of us.  Way to go, everybody else.

We also received our class time capsule.  As a group…of six…we decided to open the damn thing and read through allllllll the things inside.  Which was pretty entertaining…except somehow, only one of us present even had anything in it?!  My question is, where the HELL was everyone when they collected those things?  Out of a class of about 100, there were maybe 20 notes to future selves in the thing.  Did I even write one?!  Did I miss the time capsule memo? (I mean, that’s totally a possibility given how much time I was allowed to spend outside the house growing up.  Read: not hardly at all)  I don’t even know.

And, of COURSE, the husband’s birthday was yesterday!  He had to work 5 am to 3 pm, so I spent the morning reading and getting reviews/blog stuff done, because I turned my computer off promptly at 3.  We spent the rest of the afternoon/evening virtually technology free.  We played Lego Hobbit for a while, and then watched some stuff on Netflix.  It was epically and perfectly quiet–loooooved it.

Which pretty much catches us up!  I’ll be putting up another poll; not many of you voted last week, so either you didn’t want to or I picked some super obscure books.  Hopefully this week’s poll is more lively?!  That being said…

And this reminds me!  I have a TON of ARC reviews, blog tour reviews, and book blitz posts coming up the next few months.  I’m super excited about all of them–hopefully you guys will be, too!  Keep your eyes peeled–the madness begins Tuesday!
