Stacking the Shelves AND Sunday Post

I went to start writing this post out…and got pen ink all over my fingers.  Yes, I still physically plan out most of my posts–it helps me think better, I guess?  I’m a huge freak, okay?!  I admit it!  But seriously, there’s just something calming about putting pen tip to paper for me.

Wednesday morning, I was in the middle of making coffee at work when one of the weirdest customer interactions I’ve ever had happened.  Weekday mornings are, generally, pretty busy…but we were in a sort of lull moment, and I was trying to get coffee brewing before the next rush.  This guy, whom I’ve never seen before, comes in and pulls out a pocket full of change.

“Can I get a small cup of coffee for… 85 cents?”  he asked.

Well, no…our smalls are $1.15 I thought, but said aloud, “Sure, I’ll cover what’s left.”  I guess I was feeling generous, or something?

“Okay, great!  I’ll get a small cup…and a phone number.”

Now, don’t get me wrong here–I get hit on by my regulars on a daily basis.  They’re all harmless, though, and I know they mean nothing by it.  This guy?  My alarms were going full-throttle almost instantly.  Hoping he’d forget about it, I went up to ring him out, which is when…

“Where’s the rest of it?”  He asked, spreading his hands out in a what the hell kind of gesture.  Internally, I grimaced.  Externally, I forced a smile and met his eye.

“The rest of what?”

“Well, your phone number.”

“I’m sorry, I don’t give out my phone number.”  Which is true.  I’ve had problems with stalkers and psycho exes in the past; I NEVER give my number out to people.  Ever.

“OH, COME ON!”  Which is exactly as far as I allowed it to get.  I dropped my smile.  I took a breath.  I caught his eye.

“I don’t think my husband would like me giving my number out.”

And he immediately backpedaled, tossing a “didn’t know you were married” over his shoulder as he ran out the door.  Now, I get it.  I don’t wear a wedding band because I don’t have one I’m not allergic to.  But…if someone tells you no?  The answer is, and should be no matter what, NO.  Yeesh.

My little brother has OFFICIALLY kicked off his snake breeding business–his eggs began hatching the other day.  My mom’s been sending me pictures of the little ones, and I have to admit, while I’m not the biggest fan of snakes…they’re pretty stinking cute.  Out of 8 eggs, they’re all different; he got 2 “normal” breeds, and 6 that he’s not quite sure what they are.  He’s pretty excited.

Otherwise, things have been rolling along like normal.  We’re pretty strapped for cash right now, so I didn’t buy ANYTHING this week in terms of books!  Are you proud of me for not one-clicking like a maniac?!  It took seeeeeerious self-control, let me tell you!  But this why I decided to mix these posts this week, which means…
