Everyone has heard a different version of what happened that night at MacCallum College. Haley was already in bed when her roommate, Jenny, arrived home shell-shocked from the wild Conundrum House party. Richard heard his housemate Jordan brag about the cute freshman he hooked up with. When Jenny formally accuses Jordan of rape, Haley and Richard find themselves pushed onto opposite sides of the school’s investigation. But conflicting interests fueling conflicting versions of the story may make bringing the truth to light nearly impossible–especially when reputations, relationships, and whole futures are riding on the verdict.

Maria Padian offers a kaleidoscopic view of a sexual assault on a college campus. Wrecked will leave readers thinking about how memory and identity, what’s at stake, and who sits in judgment shape what we all decide to believe about the truth.

Quick Reasons: like the title suggests, this book WRECKED me; comfort zone? what even is that? I don’t think I know anymore; there’s an interesting play on “unreliable narrators” and “omniscient narrators” going on throughout this book that made this both frustrating, and intriguing; I don’t know what to feel right now; this book will shatter every perspective you think you have…and piece it back together in a different way

Huge thanks go to Maria Padian, Algonquin Young Readers publishing, and Netgalley for granting me early access to this title in exchange for an honest review. This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this book.

Unfortunately, Netgalley rules rule my life—this is all the review you get from me until September!  Until then, there’s one thing about this book you should know-

Wrecked (Wrecked, #1)

NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR, ELLE CASEY, brings readers the High Seas and High Adventure novel WRECKED.

If you liked The Breakfast Club and The Swiss Family Robinson, you’ll love WRECKED!

An ill-fated Caribbean cruise and four teenagers: a nerd, a jock, a mouse, and a beauty queen…an island, a treehouse, some nefarious interlopers…life and death…fear and loathing…love and laughter.
Follow Jonathan, Kevin, Candi and Sarah as they find their typical high school lives and their worlds totally WRECKED.

Content Warning: Contains some foul language and non-explicit sex scenes between older teens. May not be appropriate for younger, middle-grade teens.

A note about the series: I pretty much grew up on the East Coast of Florida, so I went to the beach a lot, and whenever I did, I was always looking out at the water wondering … “What if…?” What if I were stranded out on a boat somewhere, in shark-infested waters, and then washed up on a beach of a deserted island… How would I survive? For probably 30 years or more, I contemplated these questions every time I went to the beach or thought about the water, so I had a LOT of time to think about the details. This book was inside my head, in the making, for a really long time. That’s why it’s the first book I wrote, because it was finally time to get it out of my head and onto paper (or I should say, into my computer). When I found out about self-publishing for the Kindle, I thought, “What the heck? Maybe someone will like it as much as I do.” Now, several years later, with over 40 books written and a few spots on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists, I can say that it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It literally changed my life. I’m really glad that I spent so much time daydreaming while I was at the beach, and I’m even happier that I took a chance on this story and shared it with the world. 🙂

**SEQUEL ALERT** This book was originally written without plans for a sequel. But so many readers asked for one, it was done. Published on December 31, 2012, RECKLESS picks up where WRECKED left off.

EXCERPT:

“I can’t believe you roped us into this stupid cruise,” Sarah said in a tone of voice that clearly carried her frustration with parents who never appreciated her very important social calendar. She stood in the middle of her parents’ bedroom with her hands on her hips, chin stuck out for emphasis.

“Sarah, we don’t want to hear another word about this. You’re going, and that’s final. Now go pack your bag.” Sarah’s father turned his back on her to walk into his large bedroom closet. She lost sight of him as he turned the corner. The closet, trimmed entirely in dark cedar, was larger than many of her friends’ bedrooms.
