She’s temptation personified

Nathan had always been more than just my dad’s friend. I never thought he’d see me as an adult, especially not after avoiding me for so long. But one hug, one moment feeling every inch of him against me, shattered that illusion. Consequences no longer mattered—I was eighteen, and I was willing to risk everything for my shot with him.

He’s not going to resist anymore

I never should’ve seen Eve as more than my best friend’s daughter. As a cop, I knew it was wrong. It was my job to protect her from guys like me. Chasing her could cost me my career—not to mention the only family I’d ever known—but I couldn’t hold back another second. One taste, and I wanted her. To hell with the fallout.

She didn’t know why the angry asshole sitting next to her made her want to fuck his brains out.

Yet something pulled at her.

Maybe it was the challenge.

Or the fact she hadn’t had sex in…hell, forever.

Maybe she needed a night of angry sex to relieve some of the stress of being an overworked OB/GYN at a small hospital.

Maybe she just needed a few explosive orgasms to help her forget about all the debt she had. All the responsibilities.

She peeked out of the corner of her eye at him. Officer Asshole had a shit-eating grin on his face. Surely, it wouldn’t take much to wipe it off.

“Where are you heading?” she asked.

“Taking you home.”

“Take me to your place.”

His head snapped in her direction and the truck swerved when he jerked the wheel. He straightened it out and concentrated back on the road. “What?”

Yep. Now he wore a frown instead of that cocky grin.

“Take. Me. To. Your. Place.” The words were distinct and forceful. She wanted to make sure he knew she wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“Why?” he asked, the suspicion thick in his voice.

“Really?”

“I want to make sure I’m not hallucinating,” he said.

“To fuck me into oblivion.”

His eyebrows rose, but he kept his eyes on the road. “What if I suck at sex?”

“You won’t.” She smirked. “Assholes are always good in bed.”

His brows crept even higher. “Sounds like you know from experience.”

“I do.” Unfortunately, it was the truth.

“Maybe I can’t get it up.”

Carly looked at his lap. The distinct bulge in his jeans kind of shot that lie to bits. “Assholes can always get it up.”

With a cocked eyebrow, he asked, “You have a thing for assholes?”

“I must.”

Turning Back
(Turning #2)

J.A. Huss
Publication date: April 12th 2017
Genres: Erotica, Romance, Suspense

I lived in the dark for three years. My whole world revolved around the whims and happiness of three men. It was just a trip into the forbidden. A way out of a bad situation and forward into nothingness.

Quin, with his easy smile and charming good looks. He was always there for me… Until he wasn’t.

Smith, and his dispassionate attention. He was never there for me and he never regretted it.

Bric, the one who listened, but only to himself. Self-absorbed, self-obsessed, and self-serving. He was never the one I wanted.

And now he might be the only one I have left.

It was good while it lasted, I guess. But it could’ve been so much more. It could’ve been so much better.

And that’s why I’m turning back.

“So then what happened?” Bric asks.

We’re sitting at our booth in the White Room. Before I left, I’d sit in the middle of the bench, Quin would sit across from me in a chair, and Bric would sit to my left.

Bric is still to my left, Quin isn’t here yet—if he’s coming at all—and Adley is in her baby seat on my right.

Everything is familiar—but off.

“Then he went to bed.”

“What’d you do?”

“I sat there on the couch for a while trying to figure out what happened.”

“What did you come up with?” Bric is looking very intently at me. Like everything I’m saying is critically important.

“He hate-fucked me, that’s what I came up with, Bric!”

“Rochelle,” Bric says, throwing me one of those Don’t overreact looks.

“I’m serious. There’s no other explanation for it. He hate-fucked me. Revenge fuck. Whatever you want to call it. That’s what happened last night.” I sigh and try not to feel depressed and sad. “And then this morning I got out of bed to go check on Adley when she woke up, and when I came back, he was gone.”

“Gone?” Bric asks. “Where’d he go?”

“Just left,” I say. “I texted him. Asked if he’d be here for breakfast. And he never texted back.”

“He’s just mad,” Bric says.

“I know.” I huff. “He told me that last night too. He spelled it out very clearly. He was worried about me. Sad about my leaving. But then when I came back—”

“Now he’s just angry.”

“Right.”

“It’s a pretty typical reaction,” Bric says.

“I realize that. Which is why I’m not going to make a big deal about this. But I don’t know if this is going to work, Bric. He might not want me. He might just want to hurt me. Exactly the way I hurt him.”

“No,” Bric says, like I’m being ridiculous.

“I’m not being ridiculous,” I say. “Maybe he’s not out to hurt me. But he’s doing something, Bric. He’s playing a game, but I’m pretty sure we’re not all playing the same game.”

“He’s mad, Rochelle. You have to expect that. He’s gonna come around.”

“What does that mean? Come around? Do you really think he’s gonna fall back in love with me the way he was? Because I don’t. I think he’s here for us. Me, you, and him together. And that’s all.”

Bric rubs his hand across his scratchy jaw as he thinks this over, so I check on Adley. She fell asleep in the car on the way over here and hasn’t woken up yet. Bric is still thinking.

“I don’t want an us, Bric.”

He looks me in the eye and says. “I do. But I get it. And I’m fine with you and Quin getting your little happy ending. But I’m telling you, Rochelle, he’s just trying to protect himself right now and the best way to let him work that out and ensure you two get back together is to have an us.”

“He said he doesn’t trust me.”

“He has a good reason,” Bric counters.

“I know that,” I say, starting to get angry. “I understand that. But the whole point of us doing this… game… or whatever it is, was so that you can help me figure this out. I want him, Bric. You’re supposed to help me.”

But as soon as the words come out of my mouth I realize how stupid that is. I trust no one and I have very good reasons for that. I’ve learned over the course of my life that people are selfish. People are out for themselves. People are liars. I have a lot of experience in being lied to.

Elias Bricman definitely fits all those assumptions I have about people. And then some.

Hard to Get: This Steamy Read Wreaked Havoc on my Heart!

bookreview

Hard to Get

A standalone romance with a happily ever after! Includes a 10,000 word excerpt of ON THE ROCKS by Hildred & Cynthia

What do you do when the hottest and richest woman in town asks you out?

Run, apparently.

NADIA

No one has seen more billionaire-matchmaking carnage than Nadia Gaines, receptionist to the most expensive office around. If it’s not some old (and married) guy trying to impress her with diamonds and trips to paradise, then it’s…

Well, it’s Eva Warren, an old-money heiress whose tabloid exploits are as sordid as they are really, really gay.

Nadia is no stranger to lesbian lust. But no matter how much she wants to give in to Eva’s seduction, one mantra lurks in the back of her mind: Never date a billionaire!

Until the one night she does give in, anyway. Then everything goes to hell.

EVA

Life as a billionaire heiress isn’t all sunshine and kitty whiskers, especially if that heiress is Eva Warren. She’s managed to shake off tabloid gossip that’s ruined more than one woman’s life, but she’ll never be able to shake the two things she wants most: to work for her family’s business, and to date every beautiful woman she meets.

Curvy Nadia isn’t like the others, however. Even though the mutual attraction exists, for some reason she keeps shooting down Eva’s advances. Until Eva finally gets Nadia right where she wants her…

So begins one of the hottest games of hard to get to ever befall womankind. High society might not survive it.

4Penguins
Quick Reasons: diverse romance for the win!; realistic, engaging, and steamy; complex, well-rounded, awesome characters; delicious drama, serious snark; true-to-life, heavy-handed themes; entertaining and thought-provoking read

In my (undeniably never-ending) search for the next great romance, I stumbled across THIS gem–and immediately knew I needed it in my life. I mean, for one–that cover? drool-worthy. Not because it’s the prettiest cover ever, but because hooooooly penguins, it’s hot.

And this book? DEFINITE HEAT LEVEL, penguins. Seriously, if I were to gauge the temperature found between these sheets ahem, pages, I’d give it a 15 on a 1-10 scale. Seriously, the heat is scorching, and I was taken on a journey of delicious drama, serious snark, and steamy scenes. I mean, don’t get me wrong–this book, along with one specific character, definitely played hard to get. But the anticipation? The build-up? The formation and then breaking of the tightrope that Cynthia Dane and Hildred Billings lead their readers across? There’s something super satisfying in it all that kept me glued to the pages even when I knew I should be focusing on other things.

HTG Quote1.png

The characters are realistic and well-written. I found myself rooting for them even before I was sure THEY were a thing–and not just because the chemistry was undeniable. Their personalities surged from every page to embrace me, to push me away, to make me thing and reconsider. The more heavy-handed, important morals were handled with sensitivity and respect, and interlaced into a story that, in the end, has a much wider scope than the bedroom scenes. There are so many things readers can take away from this novel, I won’t try to list them all here–just know that there are some super important, poignant messages shared.

In the end, I had a ton of fun reading this title! The steam level was through the roof, the characters were adorable, and the bigger arcing messages were important and wide-reaching. I really enjoyed getting to know Nadia and Eva, and watching their relationship wilt and blossom with the drama. I’d recommend this to lovers of romance, butterfly-inducing moments, and realistic relationships. This book may play hard to get, penguins, but trust me–it’s so worth it!

Handsome stylish man in blue suit

EXCERPT:

On a cloudy day, the sun bursts through the sky, blinding me, and it was at that moment of squinting as I held my hand above my eyes that I first laid eyes on her.

A young girl with hair as black as soot, dancing in the park and waving her hands,
with a smile so pretty it could stop hearts. Her face one I would remember for the rest of my life.

She was frail and thin, just like I was. We were kids, playing in the park, just like
everyone else. But this was no normal encounter. Not to me.

On my little bike, I drove in circles, gawking at her, always trying to catch her
attention, but she never looked my way.

The only thing she could focus on was showing her parents a new trick she’d learned. Jumping rope twice in a row. Playing hopscotch while covering her eyes. A new dance.

Every week, she came here. Sometimes, it was on different days.

And because she was here, so was I.

You see, a boy always knows exactly when he’s met the girl he’s meant to be with.

She was that girl.

She didn’t know I wanted to get to know her.

That I even existed.

But even at such a young age, I knew … deep down in my heart … that she would be mine. One day.

If I could muster the courage to approach her.

Only if.

Because I wasn’t a courageous little boy. On the contrary, I was a bumbling, shy, and quiet boy, who always sat in the back of the class, daydreaming of another life. Busy with the stories I was penning down on the pages of my notebook.

I wasn’t the kid to walk up to a girl and ask her to play with me.

No, I was the kid who silently watched her from afar … admiring her beauty. Her will. Her devotion toward her parents and her ability to keep the hope alive that they one
day might care.

Because her parents never seemed happy.

They never laughed or smiled when she did her special thing.

They never talked to her, other than to tell her no.

They never even acknowledged her, except for when it was time to go.

And honestly, it surprised me they even came to the park that often. I guess keeping
up appearances was that important to them.

I should’ve known that before it was too late.

Before I realized that one day was going to be the last day she’d come to the park; the day she was sent to boarding school. Before I knew I may never see her again.

But I did know one thing …

I would never give up finding her.

Even if it took me a lifetime.

Twice the Fun: This was Neither Sexy OR Steamy

bookreview

Twice the Fun: A Bad Boy MFM Menage Romance

We take what we f*cking want. Even when what we want is the same girl.

Dante:

I’m one half of the infamous Rossi Brothers.

We share everything. And I do mean f*cking everything.

Together we’ve built an empire known as The Fun House gentleman’s club and we’ve become two of the most powerful— although also the most investigated— men in town.

We need to protect what’s ours and the last thing we need is a f*cking distraction.

But now we can’t seem to keep our two… business interests… out of the hottest dancer to ever walk into our club and into both of our lives.

Marino:

Jessica showed up out of nowhere, bringing with her the sexiest curves I’d ever seen.

I’d promised myself not to share club girls with Dante.

We’ve set up rules and number one is to never mix business with pleasure.

But Jessica’s so hot we can’t resist. And neither my brother nor I are known for playing by the rules.

I might not be thinking with the right f*cking head but Jessica has me thinking with my heart as well… and that’s when the fun starts to get dangerous.

Jessica:

I’m going undercover. As a stripper.

My Senate committee assigns me to investigate The Fun House and take down the Rossi brothers.

I might be the youngest member of the committee but I’m good at my job— the best. But now I’m doing my job in six-inch heels and not much else.

I’m ready to do whatever it takes but nothing prepares me for Dante and Marino.
These possessive bad boys want me. Exclusively. Giving them private dances.

How was I supposed to know how much fun it would be to bare my body and my soul to two muscular, tattooed brothers at the same time?

They say they care about me but I know they care about loyalty even more.

Will they ever forgive me when they uncover the truth? The real reason I came to their club was to bring them down.

Twice the Fun is a standalone MFM menage romance with no cliffhanger and a double happy ending. It’s all about two hot bad boys falling for one woman. There are no M/M scenes and it’s only about pleasing her. Because the only thing better than being with one bad boy is being with two at the same time!

*** Just a warning that the heat level on this one is scorching hot! If you don’t like steamy scenes featuring two guys pleasing the one woman they both love, take a pass on this one.

For a limited time this edition comes with two bonus books from The Bradford Brothers series: Harlow: A Military Bad Boy Romance and Ramsey: A Military Bad Boy Secret Baby Romance. Twice the Fun ends at approximately 30%. On sale for only 99 cents for a limited time!

2Penguins
Quick Reasons: sub-par plot; 1-dimensional characters; I didn’t connect to the story OR the personalities; there were some weird plot holes that were never really explained; the romance wasn’t believable and things progressed way too quickly; I just didn’t enjoy this one, penguins

I was SO super excited to be picking up a book not on my “reviews required” list, and to be diving into another menage romance (I know, I know–it’s definitely not for everyone, but I enjoy them?! sue me). Unfortunately for me, though…this one fell very, very flat. Just a warning for my dedicated penguin readers: there will be no quotes from this book, because…I really couldn’t find any I liked that were still “reader friendly” for all the ages that stop by here. So no quotes! Again, sue me?

Let’s talk nitty gritty: the blurb promises drama, intrigue, and a lot of steamy action. All of these promises, in the end, fell SUPER flat. The plot was pretty basic and 1-dimensional; there were a lot of sex scenes, but they were so quick and emotionless, I didn’t find them steamy in the slightest. The drama and intrigue, also, fell short–instead of playing major roles in the story progression, they were mentioned once or twice and then forgotten for the “pleasures” of the budding relationship.

The timing was really fast, too. In fact, the pacing was SO quick, I had a very difficult time suspending my disbelief for the plot or the realism of the characters/relationship. I tried, very hard, to find the emotions in these character interactions and reactions…but the dialogue was filled with cursing and foul-mouthed talking. This story wasn’t so much believable as it was a farce on relationships–which is super harsh, I know, but I cannot find a way to wrap my head around how QUICKLY the pace jumped. It just wasn’t realistic.

The writing was pretty iffy, too. Names and characters were confused–one character would be in the middle of talking, but the author would change the name in the next breath. There were a fair number of grammatical errors as well–missing words being the biggest. This wasn’t helped, in the slightest, by the various plot holes laced throughout. The most glaring: why someone working as a SENATOR…would be “investigating” people. Legally, I don’t think they can even do that. Also, they’re not cops; they have no actual standing in regards to upholding the LAW….so….why? Why was this even a thing? It makes no sense to me. There were a few other things I had issues with, but… this was the biggest one.

Overall, I was super confused by this book and couldn’t enjoy it. Neither characters or plot were believable, the pacing was way too fast, and I couldn’t connect emotionally with either the personalities or the story. This was a big penguin-beaks down for me, unfortunately–the “hot and steamy” was, in fact, super disappointing.

THE PRINCE & THE PLAYER

Zelda Wilder

We’ve been walking since we got our drinks, and now we’re at the back entrance to
the casino. He leads me out the ornate doors onto a long terrace overlooking the sea.
The moon is just rising, touching the water with silvery tips. It’s gorgeous.

“You hate every movie,” he says.

“I do not. I just have a low tolerance for crap.”

Cal sits on the stone railing in front of me, and his warm hands cover the exposed
skin on my hips as he pulls me close to his body.

“Where did you acquire such a refined taste in film?” He leans forward to kiss the
side of my neck, and that little fish in my middle is flipping all over the place.

“Cal…” Setting my drink down, I push against his shoulders.

He only tightens his hold. “I’m not letting you go, so stop struggling. Now answer my
question.”

My entire body is on fire. “My parents loved classic films. It’s where Ava…” Shit! “I
mean, um… It’s why Ava and I became friends.”

“You have parents in common?” Another burning kiss.

“Our parents were a lot alike.”

“Interesting,” he murmurs, moving higher into my hair. My knees go liquid, and I
almost collapse. “You smell delicious.”

His kisses travel to my jaw. Somehow I manage to bend my elbows and push
myself out of his arms.

“Seriously, Cal, we’re not doing this.”

“Why the devil not? We did a damn good job of it last night.”

“I’d had too much champagne last night.”

His hazel eyes flash. “I’m calling bullshit on that, Miss Benedict, you were not drunk
last night.”

I start to walk away, but he’s right behind me, catching my arm. “Wait. I’m sorry.
Don’t go. Let’s talk some more.”

It’s a mistake. I know it with every fiber of my being, but I don’t leave. “It’s really
beautiful here. I love the water.”

“We can walk down to the shore and look for ghost crabs,” he says, sliding my hair
off my cheek with his finger. “If you twist your ankle, I’ll carry you this time.”

“Cal—” My argument is lost in his mouth covering mine.

He kisses me the way he always does, passionate and consuming. Our lips part, his
tongue finds mine, and my core floods with heat. Warm hands slide over my bare back, dipping lower, into the back of my dress. I push my fingers into his hair and pull him closer to me. Oh, god, I should stop this, but I want it so much.

“I love this dress,” he murmurs against my cheek, and pleasure snakes up my
thighs along with his fingers.

He’s lifting my skirt, making his way to the center. I hold my breath, waiting for him
to discover…

“Fuck me,” he hisses, and our eyes lock. That naughty grin splits his cheeks. “Somebody forgot her panties tonight.”

Laughter explodes from my lips, and I drop my forehead against his shoulder. “Oh
my god,” I groan as his finger slides over my clit, making me jump. “Oh, god, Cal.” I’m not arguing anymore, I’m begging.

“You don’t have to beg, beautiful, I’ll make you come.” Husky words, lost in our
mouths as he kisses me again, deeper, taking what he wants. It’s what we both
want.

penguinarc2

Four Real

Her love was greedy. Their love was infinite.

Lead singer of the start-up band Four Real, Tricia Donahue left her hometown with one question. How can you love three men at once? She’s convinced herself that it can’t be done—not without living up to her family’s infamous reputation. Now, years later, lead guitarist Michael Hill is touring with world famous TRE, far removed from the small town band he once called his family. Home will never be the same until he makes things right. Keyboarder, Pete Morello and drummer, Marty Pierce were always close, but when the one girl they ever loved disappeared from their life, their casual threesomes and life’s hard knocks revealed the feelings they share for each other. Reunion time for four best friends with unfinished business means they will finally face the music. Fantasy…meet reality.

Quick Reasons: this book is FULL of the hot and steamy; mature audience recommended; there are some heavy subjects broached; complex, well-rounded, entertaining characters; I loved the focus on relationships within these pages; super fun, quick read

Huge thanks to Alyssa Turner and Xpresso Book Tours for granting me early access to a digital ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review! This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this book.

Let me get this out of the way before anything else: this book is NOT for readers uncomfortable with polyamorous relationships. This is not a “one guy, one girl” kind of book, so if you’re expecting or wanting to find that…you should probably put this one down and step away. Find something else to read. Also, there are some mature themes and subjects broached throughout–please keep this in mind! This book is definitely not going to be for “everyone,” so if it doesn’t work for you, that’s okay!

That being said. I. LOVED. this book! I actually just went and bumped my penguin rating up a tiny bit because it was, having thought about it, a smidge too low for how I feel about this book. The characters are complex, well-rounded, and super entertaining. I’m not going to lie: I’ve always been a sucker for “love between band mates” books…and this book met that criteria beautifully. On top of that, the characters are realistic and diverse, while not being too cliche or “in your face” about their differences. They are human, and real, and I loved each of them equally. It doesn’t hurt that they practically leaped off the page at me. I was, at times, a bit frustrated by Tricia; she came off very flighty and cowardly at times, and that didn’t mesh at all with the vibe I expected her to put off going into this read. Once I wrapped my head around her and her character quirks, though, I enjoyed her much more. Of course, each of the boys in this are immediately bae–I just couldn’t choose between them if I tried! #multiplebookboyfriends #forthewin #Imnotashamed

Alyssa Turner knows how to weave a relationship and make it realistic, and the relationships built upon and explored throughout these pages are one of my favorite elements. The friendship–gone so long with so many things unsaid and so many subjects unbroached–felt cohesive and natural even after so much time had passed in the characters’ lives. Reading this, I felt an outsider looking-in on a group of friends I could only HOPE to someday be as close to. The fact that a deeper, stronger relationship is woven into and throughout that friendship only helped to make these friends/lovers FEEL like the real deal to me. There are so many different types of love divulged and explored throughout this read, and each of them is just as natural and just as true-to-life.

I had a TON of fun reading this, and cannot WAIT to dive into more of Alyssa Turner’s novels! This book helped to give me a glimpse into a different type of love and intimacy, and I enjoyed every moment of it immensely. The relationships felt cohesive and realistic, the characters are well-rounded and entertaining, and there are several moments hot and steamy enough to leave even the most seasoned romance reader blushing. I recommend to readers who appreciate friendship-turned-love plots, deliciously sexy romps, and journeys of self-discovery. Alyssa Turner caught me in her snares with this one; maybe you should dance the dance, too!

Quick Reasons: there wasn’t anything horrifying about this read; I really disliked the amount of graphic, detailed sex fantasies we got from Ron’s POV; I wouldn’t even call this an “erotic” read, there was nothing sexy about it; an interesting look into obsession and the ways it changes us; random ghosts?

Huge thanks to Rob Santana, What-If Productions, and the crew at Booktasters for sending me a copy of this title free in exchange for an honest review. This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this book.

It is safe to say I did not particularly enjoy or appreciate this book, for several huge reasons. So let’s start at the beginning. I found the look into obsession and greed, and the ways these things change us or alter our behavior toward others, interesting and thought-provoking. When I first picked up this book, I was SUPER intrigued–I was excited about the idea of an erotic horror story and kept having flashbacks to that scene in American Horror Story: Murder House. If you’ve seen the show, I’m sure you know which scene I’m talking about–it involves a rubber suit? This was not at all what I got from this book, though.

For one….nothing about this book horrified me. I was hoping for fear. I was hoping this book would give me nightmares. I was HOPING I’d be kept awake at night, searching the shadows, fearing the things that go “bump.” None of this happened. Even the scenes that should have been scary, fell flat–and I’m not sure if that’s because of my personal dislike for the book, or the way the scenes were written.

Ron stood up and approached the smudge. Without disturbing Helena, he reached for a hand towel, then dabbed at the spot.

It was gone.

Just a normal, everyday blemish.

I don’t feel like the characters went through much personal growth or discovery. Ron, throughout the read, remains a whiny, sex-crazed guy. Seriously, the dude thought of literally NOTHING ELSE–every other page was smeared with graphic, detailed sex fantasies. He was judgmental, insulting, and obsessive. All of these things, while perhaps calling for an interesting character….put me off. The rest of the characters were just as 1-dimensional; I couldn’t–and didn’t really want to–connect with any of them. Which is depressing, as it made for a very long, very frustrating read.

There were a few moments at the beginning that piqued my interest enough to keep me reading, but…this quickly devolved into the rambling thoughts of a man obsessed with sex and intent on doing ANYTHING to get it. Ron claims to “love” Laura throughout….but when presented with other opportunities to find pleasure in other women, suddenly it’s all “No, I don’t think she really cares for me, what would it matter if I cheated?” Had this been written in a different manner…with less emphasis on sex/the “erotic”…it might have been scary. It might have been more entertaining. I might have actually enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, with everything I detailed above, this just wasn’t the right fit for me personally. While I don’t mind sex in my books, I want there to be an actual plot outside of the bedroom–and while there IS a plot going on here, it’s muddled. It gets lost in Ron’s obsession. I think the emphasis might have been better had it lied upon the ghost story, and not the erotic. Still, the small insight into obsession and greed–and the ways they warp and change us–was interesting. I’m disappointed…but maybe you’ll like this book better than I did. Just because I’m disappointed, doesn’t mean YOU will be–so if you think it sounds interesting, pick it up!
