Real Neat Blog Award

RN BlogAward

I was tagged by the wonderfully awesome Kei @ The Lovely Pages Reviews.  Thank you so so much, Kei!  You can see her post and nominations right here!

The Rules:

♥ Thank and link the blogger that nominated you.
♥ Answer the 7 questions that the nomination has provided you.
♥ Create 7 questions for your nominees.
♥ Nominate 7 other bloggers.

Kei’s Questions:

  • Name the most re-read book on your shelf.

Oh jeez.  Okay.  Uhm.  I’m going to go with

Pride and Prejudice

because do you even KNOW how many different versions/adaptations/retellings of this book I’ve read?  Do you know how many I OWN?!  It’s a lot.  And it takes the top spot for this question, no doubt about it.

  • Have you ever spoiled the ending of a book for yourself or others?

Erm.  I don’t think so?  I mean I HAVE spoiled the endings of books for others, BUT ONLY WHEN ASKED!  And even then, I have to reeeeeeeally make sure they mean business and actually want to be spoiled, because I HATE being spoiled and hate to do that to other people.  Usually though, I’m as spoiler-free as they come!

  • Do you read negative reviews?

Definitely!  I like to read negative reviews of books I’ve read and loved, books I’ve read and loathed, AND books I haven’t read YET but am attempting to decide if I should.  I think negative reviews can bring a lot of insight to a reader.  Of course, some negative reviews should never be read EVER.  It’s a very fine thread of tight rope.

  • Name a book you’ve lied about reading or not reading.

Anything I was *required* to read for classes.  For the most part, I was SOOPAH bored by those books, and usually could get away with skimming or not reading at all.  Also, STUPID HUCKLEBERRY FINN.  I will throw that book into a raging fire if I EVER see it again.  I read it SO MANY TIMES throughout middle/high school and college… SO MANY.  I started lying about having actually read it, because I had the damn thing memorized.

No, really, you don’t understand.  In college?  I had the same professor pretty much every single semester, okay?  And he loved…and I mean LOVED…this stupid book.  Which meant we read this stupid book literally every semester.  I got soooo sick of it.  It is the only book I will maim on sight.

  • Series or standalones?

It…depends?!  I know, that’s really not a helpful answer, but I honestly don’t care one way or the other.  If the prose is pretty and the book wounds my porcelain heart, it doesn’t matter.  Unless it DOES.  By which I mean, if the standalone is SO soopah pretty and hurtful and gaaaaaaaaah and I find myself, at the end of the book, needing more.  In which case, I will curse the fact it’s a standalone.  But…this doesn’t happen often.

  • Name the book you’re currently reading.

Alice Takes Back Wonderland

  • Would you rather re-read the same book forever or forget every book you finish reading? (I’m so evil *insert evil laugh*)

Forget every book I finish reading…because then I can read them again, and again, and again, AND ALWAYS BE SURPRISED by the sneakeh heart-wrenching plot twists!  I mean sure, I’ll never remember WHY said books are my favorites…but…REREADING!

My Questions (of Scary Awesome)

♥ If you were a book, would genre would you be and why?

♥ Surprise!  You wake up and discover you can talk to ONE animal for 24 hours.  What do you talk about?

♥ Pick your last 5 Star read.  Give us 1 song, 1 emotion, and 1 color to describe it.

♥ What’s one book you love to hate?  Why?

♥ What’s your favorite retelling?  Least favorite?

♥ Your house is rigged to explode!  You have 5 seconds to grab your most prized possession.  What do you pick?

♥ What are your favorite bookish buzzwords?

The Entertainer Blogger Award

HUGE thanks to Anna @ Space Cats and Books for nominating me for this award!  You can see her nomination post right over HERE!

  • Write a post with the award picture.
  • Nominate 12 other bloggers who are funny, inspiring, and, most important of all, ENTERTAINING!
  • Add these rules to the post.
  • Thank the person who nominated you and leave a link to their blog!
  • Also, answer these questions down below!

Before I begin…can we, like, agree to make awards with INTERESTING questions in the future?!  I mean don’t get me wrong, okay, but seeeeeriously–it’s always the same questions.  I get bored easily!

No worries, no worries… I’ll suffer through it for you guys.

1. Why did you start a blog in the first place?

It’s a pretty easy answer, really.  I’d had a tumblr for…I don’t know how long, and wasn’t finding what I wanted there in terms of community.  So I branched out, realized I had a wordpress sitting around in the dark collecting cobwebs (yay me? I don’t even know why I started this blog in the first place) and VOILA!  Here I be!

Of course, all you lovely readers helped–thanks for being epical and glittery!

2. What is your favorite book?

Why do people always assume I’m going to have only one?!  REAL BOOK ADDICTS CAN NEVER PICK JUST ONE!  I mean really, it’s like potato chips…can YOU eat only one potato chip!?  I didn’t think so.  (if you don’t like potato chips, feel free to stick your own brand of addiction in there–chocolate chips, peanut butter balls, strawberries….)

To answer the question, though, I’ll direct you to two different goodreads folders:

5 Penguin Reads

Life Ruiners

3. What do you dislike the most?

What…do you mean in terms of books?  Pet peeves?  Music?  Food?  I don’t… I’m a reader, YOU MUST be more specific!

Let’s see… in terms of books:  insta-love and cliff-hanger endings (and by this, I mean the UNNECESSARY ones.  I don’t mind the normal cliff-hanger sometimes, but not every book in a series HAS to have one, you know?!)

In terms of…everything else?… I haaaaate when people say “living the dream” or “just another day in paradise” in response to asking how they are.  Don’t do that, okay?  I don’t need your back-handed sarcasm.

4. What is your favorite food item from the mall?

Pretzels.  OH.  MAH.  GOSH.  Pretzels.

5. What is your favorite pastime activity?

I mean…have you, uhm… Have you been around these parts long?

Aside from the obvious…

Music.  Movies.  TV shows.  I have a burgeoning love of Anime happening.  And sometimes I write, though…not as much as I should.  Because WHO HAS TIME?!

I Nominate:

The Beautiful Blogger Award

Many huge thanks to Lila @ The Bookkeeper’s Secrets for nominating me!  Lila does some pretty spectacular, unique posts– maybe you should go check out her Travel Guide for Grishavere’s Ravka, for instance!  You’re bound to find something awesome on her blog, so go take a gander!

The Rules:

  • Link to the blogger who nominated you.
  • List seven random facts about you.
  • Nominate seven creative, beautiful bloggers, and notify them.

The (Not So) Sovereign Seven:

  • I suffer from Obsessive Skin Picking (or Dermatillomania).  I started picking when I was three.  I have tried every “cure” out there to stop.  None of it’s worked.
  • I’ve only ever been buzzed once, and I hated it. I’ve never been drunk.
  • I have an insanely irrational fear of ants.
  • I have a fascination with roses I can’t explain; a friend of mine called me Rose Lady for years.  I rather miss this nickname.
  • I am allergic to metal/cheap gold.  I can’t even wear the hypoallergenic crap–hypoallergenic earrings?  I break out in under ten minutes.
  • My favorite time of day is twilight…though sunrises have also been a big deal for me lately.
  • I have been on a roller coaster exactly once, with my dad.  He begged and pleaded the entire day for me to go on one with him, and I kept turning him down because HULLO, scary!  Finally, I gave in.  We got in line.  As soon as we got to the “too late to turn around” point, he looked at me and said, dead-serious… “Have I mentioned I don’t LIKE roller coasters?”  I don’t regret it, though, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I Nominate:

(you guys are really making this hard for me lately–I only have so many people to choose!)

Sian @ Sian’s Bookshelf

Adele @ Adele is Reading

Aubrey @ If Mermaids Wore Suspenders

Michelle @ Michelle: Books and Movies Addict

Grace @ That Second Star to the Right

Carolyn @ A Hundred Thousand Stories

Jess @ mudandstars

Liebster Award

Huge thanks going out to Brittany @ The Dream Carriers this time for nominating me!  If you haven’t checked out her blog yet, be sure to go do so–it’s soopah wonderful, as is she!

  • I don’t like talking about myself and will usually, when first meeting new people, do more observing than socializing, as I tend to “read” people better that way.  If you say something I don’t agree with, I won’t automatically cross you off my list…if you say SEVERAL things I don’t agree with, or you treat the other people around you badly, you’re not worth my time and I won’t give it to you.  Because of this, most people think I’m rather stuck-up.
  •  I looooove having my head massaged/my hair played with.  My mom and grandma used to do this to put me to sleep when I was little, and it’s one of the only things that instantly relaxes me.
  • My favorite poem from a book is “Codependent Relationship,” which is from “Kinky” by Denise Duhamel–

    Barbie says to Ken:
You know what chlorine does to my hair.
But if you insist we go swimming
    at least have the courtesy
to help me take my head off first.

  • I have never set foot outside of the country.  I paid, my senior year, to take a cruise after graduation, but found out that I was supposed to be in Texas for a contest in the middle of the same week and had to back out.
  • The only video games I play “often” are Lego games and anything Mario; also, The Sims.
  • I love receiving mail and gifts, but don’t often get either.
  • My brother and I used to take an airplane across the country every summer to spend time with our dad.  One year we got stuck in the airport overnight.  There was a stern old HAG of a woman who was SO CONVINCED that boys and girls would do naughty things together if anywhere close to each other, she REFUSED to let my brother play cards even with me. He had to sit across the table and watch.  He was no older than 10 or 11 at the time.  That’s the only time I’ve ever come close to actually hitting somebody out of anger.
  • I despise Diet Coke.
  • I was in a very emotionally and sexually abusive relationship for part of my college career.
  • I tend to pick at the skin on my fingers (mostly my thumbs and pointers) and my lips until they bleed and hurt. It’s a nervous habit…but it’s also a compulsive disorder. I’ve been doing it since I was three.  I haven’t been able to find anything to help me stop it.
  • I go on the ABSOLUTE WORST tangents ever, about the most random things you’ve ever heard.  (for instance…and I’m just giving you two words here… Caw Father.)

Brittany’s Questions:

  • What is your absolute favourite book of all time and why?

Why does everyone insist I pick only ONE?!  I’m gonna give you a few, yes?

Vinyl (The Vinyl Trilogy Book 1)

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)

The Scarred Letter

  • What are you currently watching on tv that you’re loving?

Criminal Minds and Code Black (both on Wednesdays!)

  • What’s your favourite thing to do in the area that you live in? Any suggestions?

I don’t…really… DO things.  XD  I’m sort of boring–I work, then come home.

  • Who is your favouite book couple?

Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy!

I bet you didn’t see that answer coming, did you?!  XD

  • If you could visit any fictional world, which would you visit?

  • If you’re a Disney fanatic like me, what is your favourite Disney movie?

I don’t really have just one of these, either… it’s a toss up between:
–Beauty and the Beast
–A Goofy Movie
–Big Hero 6
–The Lizzie McGuire Movie
–Lion King 2:  Simba’s Pride
–Susie Q

  • Tell me about your pets!

Unfortunately, I don’t have any! 😦

  • Do you collect anything besides books? What is it?

Movies/tv shows.  We’re all about the entertainment in this household.

  • What is your biggest passion in life that isn’t bookish?

Hmm… Either artwork or music!  I love anything artistic pretty equally, so…yeah.  Too bad I’m not as good at either of those as I am writing.

  • What popular book that people love, do you not like?

Obsidian (Lux, #1)

  • What is your favourite part of book blogging?

Talking to all you awesome people, getting book recommendations from all you awesome people, and seeing what all you awesome people are reading/coming up with/etc!  Basically…all you awesome people!

I Tag:

Whoever wants to do this because I’m way too tired to find 11 people and link them all. 😛

2. What is the silliest thing you’ve ever said/done?
3. What is your “guilty” reading pleasure?
4. If you could have on mythological creature as a pet, which would it be and why?

10. Pick three fruits.  If you had to rename them based on taste, what would you call them?
11. Favorite flavor gum?

Sunshine Blogger Award

I was nominated by the awesometastic Alison over at myinsanewxnderland over at this post right here!  Thank you SO MUCH, Alison–you really made my day!  If you guys don’t already know Alison, go check out her blog–it’s GORGEOUS, and filled with awesome things.

“The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to those who are inspiring and bring sunshine into the lives of their readers and fellow bloggers.”

I mean, I just…. YAY!

The Rules:

–Answer the questions.
–Nominate other bloggers.
–Come up with questions for them to answer.

Pretty easy, right?!

  • What inspired you to start a blog?

Mostly, I started this to find other readers to rant about/obsess over/cry to/share my love of reading…with.  I have a tumblr, as well ( betwixt-these-pages ) but I wasn’t getting the interactions and relationships I wanted from it.  I can reblog all the pretties, but making friends over there is difficult.  So I came here, and a journey began!

  • What is your all time favorite book?

Really?  You… You want me to choose just one?  I can’t do that!  I’d have lots of hurt book-feelings!  Let’s compromise.  I’ll give you…a top five. 😀  Please keep in mind if you ask me this same question tomorrow, my answers WILL change a bit.

Vinyl (The Vinyl Trilogy Book 1)

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender

  • What is your favorite food?

I don’t really have one set favorite–for anything, to be honest.  Favorite foods include:  bacon, kettle corn, white chocolate, and ice cream.

  • What do you think can make this world a better place?

Less snap judgments, more “pay it forward” attitudes.

I Nominate:

Codie @ Reader’s Anonymous

Mary @ Mary had a Little Library

Brittany @ The Dream Carrier

Sara @ Sara Reads

My Questions:

  • What’s the first sentence of the book you’re currently reading?  The last sentence of the LAST book you finished?
  •  Finish the sentence: The secret to _____ is _____ ?
  • If you could pick one sound to wake up to the rest of your life, what sound would you choose?
  • If you were a book, which genre would you be and why?

I don’t know?  I guess…stop worrying so much about impressing others, and worry more about being true to yourself.  Yeah.  That works.

Seven Facts About Me:

–I read very quickly.  If I’m determined (or really into the story) I can finish up to three books a day, depending on length.  I’ve done it before.
–I used to work in a bakery.  I was told I was a natural at cake decorating.  I often miss the work–but I don’t miss the company.
–I love, love, LOVE haiku.  Writing, reading, you name it!
–I also love artwork, though I’m not nearly as good at art-ing as my mom and grandma.
–Bad boys as book love-interests are all the rage with me.  Examples:  Will (from the Infernal Devices trilogy, by Cassandra Clare); Koschei the Deathless (from Deathless, by Catherynne M. Valente); Poet (from Trick, by Natalia Jaster).
–I have such high skin-sensitivity to metals, I can’t even wear hypoallergenic earrings.  I break out within five minutes.
–When I get a brain freeze, it ALWAYS starts in my lower back/kidneys and moves up.  I swear, I’m part robot.

I Nominate:

Morgan @ Bookenstein
Michelle @ Book Adventures
Emily @ Be Book Smart
Ali @ Book Lover Thoughts
Kelsey @ A Book is a Girl’s Best Friend
Jess @ Jess’ Reading Nook

Infinity Dreams Award (x2)

I was tagged by (and borrowed the lovely header image from) the wonderfully bookish Lila @ The Bookkeeper’s Secrets–thanks so much for tagging me!  If you didn’t already know, Lila’s pretty awesome sauce–she’s even saved a beached baby seal!  Go check her blog out!

1. Thank and follow the blog that nominated you
2. Tell us 11 facts about yourself
3. Answer the questions that were set for you to answer
4.  Nominate 11 bloggers and set questions for them

And here we go!

11 Facts About Me:

–I adoooooore lyrical, poetic reads!  Beautiful passages are my bread and butter…or…bread and butter pickle chips.
–I’m a type 1 diabetic.  This last December was my 20th diaversary.
–I was diagnosed the week before Christmas.  I was 7.  I feel bad now, thinking about it–at the time, there was ONE other student in my school with type 1 diabetes.  Guess whose third grade teacher got stuck with the BOTH of us?  That’s right!  Poor lady.  XD
–I am TERRIBLE at twitter-ing.  I mean this seriously.  I don’t know what the heck I’m doing over there.
–I’m also terrible at coming up with my OWN unique posts.  I’m trying this year, but…I stink at this game?
–My husband and I were married on Halloween.
–YES, we did a costume wedding!  He was Prince Adam, I was Belle; his best man was Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert; my maid of honor was Rapunzel; my mom (who walked me down the aisle/gave me away) was Cruella de Ville; our ring bearer was the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man.
–We own 805 physical books.  This does not include all our Kindle books.
–We also collect movies/tv shows…though we’ve slowed down on these quite a bit recently!
–I have a thing for toe socks and slippers.  Don’t ask, I can’t explain.
–I like video games…so long as they’re Lego or Mario!

Lila’s 11 Questions:

  • Do you speak any other languages?

I speak a VERY LITTLE bit of Spanish.  I had to take so many years in middle school, high school, and college.  I retained almost nothing.

  • When I say the word “book” what color do you see?

PINK!  I…don’t have any reason why, that’s just what color that word is I guess.

  • Kiss, Marry, Kill with the main characters of your favorite book/series. Go!

Okay, deal!  The series:  The Infernal Devices, by Cassandra Clare
Kiss: Jem.  Always Jem.
Marry: Will.
Kill: I feel like saying Tessa is bad form, but…I’d kill Tessa, and take her place.  I’d be totally believable, right?!

  • Do you believe any conspiracy theories? If so, which one(s)?

No, I sure don’t!

  • You’re stranded on a desert island with only FICTION books. Which one book do you go to for advice on how to survive?

Shutter Island, by Dennis Lehane

  • Do you think in words or pictures or a mixture or some other way?

I…don’t altogether know?  I think I think in music, if I’m being honest.  I tell people all the time I have my own personal radio playing through my thoughts 24/7.  Seriously, I’m never NOT singing something in my head.

  • Sun or snow?

SUN!  Definitely sun!

  • Define yourself in six words.

Nerdy.  Bookish.  Sporadic.  Off-kilter.  Unique.

  • What is one endearingly weird quirk of yours?

The husband:  “Besides the fact that you’re a complete goober?”
I don’t think that counts.  If you say even ONE small sentence to or near me, I’m likely to remember a song with any one (or more) of those words…and proceed to get it stuck in my head.

  • Do you read comics or graphic novels? If not, do you want to?

I read both! though not as often as I should.

  • What’s your favorite fantasy map?

I Tag:

(only six because I’m a RULE BREAKER! also, because I’ve done this before and therefore I’m allowed to cheat.)
