Top Ten Tuesday (#23)

TTT

HOSTED BY: THE BROKE AND THE BOOKISH
DESCRIPTION: TOP TEN TUESDAY IS AN ORIGINAL FEATURE/WEEKLY MEME CREATED HERE AT THE BROKE AND THE BOOKISH. THIS FEATURE WAS CREATED BECAUSE WE ARE PARTICULARLY FOND OF LISTS HERE AT THE BROKE AND THE BOOKISH. WE’D LOVE TO SHARE OUR LISTS WITH OTHER BOOKISH FOLKS AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOUR TOP TEN LISTS!

This week’s theme: Top Ten Books that Made Me Laugh

Find their latest post here!

Except…we ALWAYS talk about books that made us laugh or cry, and I refuse.  I want to talk about books that made me ANGRY!

No, I don’t mean angry in a bad way–there will be no hulking out or turning green happening!  I mean righteous anger.  I mean, “I so didn’t see that twist coming and now I want to throw the book across the room…while also hugging it close and stroking the cover, sobbing” anger.

You know–the GOOD sort!  Because there totally is such a thing.  Promise.

No, really–I swear I’m not making it up!

Sooo…let’s do some little sectiony-things, yes?

Oh mah PENGUINS, that plot twist!

Vinyl (The Vinyl Trilogy Book 1)

The 71% mark is ABSOLUTELY, COMPLETELY, I AM NOT EXAGGERATING the freaking plot twist from Hell.  It is Devil-spawned and was created for PURE EVIL just to tear readers’ hearts out and stomp them into frakking smithereens.  If you read this book (which you should!) watch yourself around this.  It will slaughter you, and laugh.

The Love That Split the World

There were SO MANY dying whale noises coming out of me after this book.  The entire read is like one giant plot twist, and I absolutely adored every single moment…though it BROKE.  ME.  Hard-core.  Also, WIN on the ambiguous/open to interpretation ending!

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender

Another ambiguous, open to interpretation ending that absolutely MURDERED me.  I swear I am dead, folks.  This penguin is a zombie.

And….now I know what I’m doing to my blog come October.

Allegiant (Divergent, #3)

So…I think I’m one of only a few readers who actually LIKED this plot twist.  I mean, don’t get me wrong–it absolutely killed me!  But…I loved it!

So…this last one is SORT of a cheat because the fourth and final book isn’t out yet (SOON! SOON! SOON!) but…the plot twist here?  Is that we’ve sort of known the plot twist since the beginning.  Readers, though… We’re sensitive, naive creatures.  We all DESPERATELY want to believe that what we know will never actually happen, despite…y’know…the author telling us it definitely will.

Righteous, man!  Righteous ANGER!

The Scarred Letter

This book!  This book made me SO.  ANGRY!  Which, I mean, it was supposed to, but…c’moooooon, people!  Really?  Talk about epic amounts of ugly “bystander” syndrome.  Y’know…where you witness a crime happening, but do nothing to step in and stop it/help?  Yeah.  Don’t DO that!  (seriously, though, I love this book–and it’s only $2.99 on kindle, so…you should go pick it up.  Right now.)

Wrecked

Nope.  Nope.  I am still not over this book.  It’s just not a thing I can do.  This book will PISS YOU OFF…and rightfully so.  But it’s SO important, guys.  SO SO important.

Holding Smoke

Ugh.  UGH.  The absolute amount of ugly anger I felt reading this book…I mean, not because the book is bad, but because…Life, and reality, and things!

Symptoms of Being Human

I can’t even with how much anger I felt sympathizing with this character.  People:  Don’t be dumb!  Sheesh.

The Art of Being Normal

I repeat:  PEOPLE!  DON’T.  BE.  DUMB!

So what books made YOU angry–and why?!  Rant and rave at me in the comments, if youd like!   Also, feel free to link me to your own TTT down there in the down below.

Until next time, happy book-ing!

  1. YESSS @ THIS POST!!! I 100% get you about their being a good kind of angry. I think it’s amazing when writers can get that reaction from you for the right reasons!

I kind of liked the plot twist in Allegiant too 🙈 Well not liked because I had tears streaming down my.face 😂 but I definitely didn’t hate it like most people did.

I’m only reading The Dream Thieves, but I am so not ready for The Raven King.

Nearly all of these are on my TBR. I need to read them!

ALSO MY REQUEST FOR WRECKED WAS ACCEPTED AND IM SO EXCITED/SCARED TO START IT.

    • OMPENGUINS, these books! There was SO MUCH YELLING going on in my head while reading aaaaaall of these! Like…seriously, authors, if your book makes me the GOOD sort of angry, you’re most likely going to get 5 stars from me. Most likely.

OHOHOHOHOH YAY! Oh you soooo need to keep me updated when you start it and as you read because I MUST KNOW YOUR REACTIONS! (because…I pushed you into requesting it… >.> and now I’m worried) Don’t be scaaaaared though! Don’t let it intimidate you, Lauren–it might bite, but you can break its spine easily enough. XD

  2. So I knew Allegiant was coming. I read the books way after it came out, but I still wasn’t prepared. It felt so appropriate though. And those books came into my life when I needed it and I just UGH. Also you know my feelings on TLTSTW. I’ll never be over it. Ever.

    • UUUUUGH TLTSTW! I will neeeeever be over it, either. That is one book I definitely need to get for my shelves as soon as I can, because I only have it on my Kindle and I just…. I need it. I need it so bad!

See, I read the series wayyyyyy back when before I started seriously reviewing books/blogging, so…I didn’t see it coming. I went into that book thinking, “OOOOOH YAY, I finally get to see from Four’s perspective!” and came out soooooooooobbing so hard! BAD BOOK! But also good book. If that makes sense. XD

      • It’s definitely one of the prettiest books on my shelf! The COLORS.

Those are literally the best books. When you leave it sobbing like whyyyyy but also I’m so in looooooove. I have a few of those 🙂

      • I loooooove books that emulate sunrises/sunsets…because…those are ALWAYS my favorite colors. Like, pretty sunrises/sunsets? Life goals, right there. If I ever own a house, my walls WILL BE those colors. Because I’m obsessed. But also pretty.

And I’m not ready for it. At all. EEEEEEEELP.
I definitely had that emotion for Allegiant! Like I LOVED it??? But I wanted to sob over it and shake it and tell it noooooo.

    • UGH, people SO SO SO suck sometimes! *glares at people with you*

I just…Gaaaaaaah! GAAAAAAAH! This book is LITERALLY going to break the entire world into itsy bitsy pieces. Very, VERY itsy bitsy. Unsalvagable ones. That are very sharp. XD This is to say, I honestly don’t think any of us are prepared. It’s going to be utter chaos.

You’re so so welcome! Thank you, in return!
