Eleven Facts About Me

–I am a 27 year old type 1 diabetic with hypothyroidism, chronic anemia, degenerative disk disease, and what MIGHT be arthritis.  Most days, I feel like I’m 50 years old.
–I read 168 books this year.  Don’t ask me how; I can’t tell you.
–Of those, most were written by women.  Again…I did not plan this, but am in no way upset about it!
–I love WEIRD books.  Not sure what I mean by this?  I’m not either…but beautiful language, awesome characters, and unique plot lines are always a plus.
–I have a HUGE problem with crowds of people.  I’m people claustrophobic.  Seriously, put me in a bunch of people without distracting my mind and I’m likely to have an anxiety attack.
–I have 7 siblings.  Only one of them is fully related to me.
–I LOVE kettle corn.  Seriously.  I am the only one in my family who does; the rest think I’m crazy.
–I have (knock on wood) only ever broken my nose.
–I own something like 30? alternate versions/retellings of Pride and Prejudice.
–Rory and Jess (Gilmore Girls) 5ever.  I wish they’d been given a different ending.
–I am NOT good at riding bikes.  People tell me it’s supposed to be so easy, so natural, so FUN… I always find a way to fall off and hurt myself.

Eve’s Questions

  • If you had two weeks and unlimited funds, what would be your dream vacation?

Anywhere that isn’t HERE would be awesome.  I’d LOVE to (finally) take a honeymoon…but…eh.  Really, just getting out of town for while?  I’d explode.

  • What was one of your favorite books as a child?

Where the Sidewalk Ends, by Shel Silverstein!  I just ADORE his work!

  • What was one of your favorite recent reads?

Through the Woods, by Emily Carroll.  The illustrations and stories are just SO gorgeous and fun to read!  A little disturbing at times…but fun!

  • What is your dream/life’s ambition?

To somehow, someway, figure out how to be (and make a living from being) a professional reader.  I will do this!  Eventually.

  • What three things would indicate you’ve achieved your dream?

Unlimited:  books, time, and space!

  • What is your favorite board/card/casino game?

Cribbage!  I learned in fifth grade (part of our teacher’s curriculum; he still does this with his classes, and I think it’s awesome!).  I also played regularly with my grandpa; these are some of my favorite memories now that he’s gone.

  • Would you prefer camping in nature or staying at fine hotel in the city?

Hotel, for sure.  Me and nature just do not mix.  And I don’t mean nature as in the trees and the rocks and the weather.  I mean…me and wild animals don’t mix.  SERIOUSLY, deer don’t like me!

Now, if I were in a CABIN in the middle of nature, that would be a different story I think.

  • If you could write like any author, who would it be and why?

Terry Pratchett!  I write pretty well…but humor in writing is beyond me.  Also, his books are SO imaginative and awesome!

  • If you could visit any historical time period, which would you choose and why?

Either the time of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy….or the time of Mary, Queen of Scots.  I don’t know why, specifically–I’m just obsessed with these periods!

  • Romance or adventure?

What SORT of adventure?  Why can’t I have both?

  • What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?

You know, I’m really not picky when it comes to ice cream.  I love them all!

  1. Thanks for tagging me in this! I’ll post shortly. 🙂 I love Gilmore Girls. It’s funny because the girls I work with definitely got into serious arguments of whether or not they were Team Jess or Team Logan (this was just a few months ago…).

  3. You know how Hester Prynne’s penance was to wear the letter ‘A’? I’m not sure what letter it should be, but I need to wear one, too, because I am the worst blogger-friend ever since I didn’t notice your awesome response to my tag until 2 weeks after you posted it! I love that your teacher taught you and the other students how to play cribbage and that it was something you got to enjoy with your grandfather (aren’t grandparents THUH BEST?!). Incidentally, I have No Idea how to play cribbage–is it played with cards? Owning 30 retellings of Pride and Prejudice is epic; can’t think of a better story to own so many versions of. Would love to know what a couple of your favorites are. And I’m sorry about the deer thing, but I laughed out loud when I read that line. Must. have. more. details. on. this. phenomenon.

    • Oh, no worries! Life happens and things get lost in the kerfluffle–I totally understand!

You should TOTALLY learn sometime if you’re able, it’s a blast! It’s really confusing to try and explain, though… It’s played with a pack of cards and with a board that looks a bit like a race track. You can see a picture of a simple board here. There are, however, much more intricate boards out there. Basically, it’s a race to the finish line–you get there by scoring points. 😀

A few of my favorite P&P retellings (that I’ve read, because I haven’t yet read them all!) include:
Pride and Platypus: Mr. Darcy’s Dreadful Secret by Vera Nazarian — this is just such an entertaining and humorous read!
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (the whole trilogy!) by Steve Hockensmith, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Jane Austen — these were my FIRST retellings, and I just adoooore them all equally!
Me and Mr. Darcy by Alexandra Potter — a modern-day twist on the classic, I had a ton of fun seeing Mr. Darcy in a different way!

I also really really enjoy The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on youtube. I’ve watched them through three times now, and can’t get enough!

Oh jeez, the deer. I live in a valley surrounded by mountains on all sides. Because of this, there are quite a good number of deer in the area–a town about 30 miles from here actually has deer living in town year round, several in the same exact places. So…there are deer that live up there near the rec center. They aren’t very nice to people who get too close to their babies, let me tell you–they will charge! Or, at least, paw at the dirt and put their heads down and make you really uncomfortable. You have to understand: I’m TINY. Deer could break me with just one look if they wanted to. I was so terrified, I almost threw myself into a pond in hopes it would put Mama off her rage. And I wasn’t even that close, honestly! I swear, deer loathe me on principal–I refuse to go anywhere near them now!
